Our Missions

  • Angel Tree – This outreach project takes place in December. Ashford adopts a number of families to help during the holidays. Also, members contact relatives of those who are incarcerated and we provide clothes, food, and presents for their children.

  • Back to School – During the month of August, Ashford collects a variety of school supplies to donate to WHAM (West Houston Assistance Ministries).

  • Bag Pack Buddies – Helping elementary schools with breakfast for low income students during the weekend. With the help of a food bank and the school, Ashford is able to sponsor the bags that go home for the weekend for a particular student.

  • Citizenship Test Preparation classes: Open to anyone in the community who wishes to join.

  • Dinner for Eight – This is a time to get to know other people from the congregation that you wouldn’t otherwise get a chance to talk to or see very often. Participants divide into groups of 8 and take turns entertaining at their home or at a restaurant. (This ministry is currently not meeting.)

  • Easter Egg Event/Hunt – This is an outreach event at which area children/families can participate. Various safe and fun activities are organized outside for all ages.

  • ESL classes: Ashford offers ESL classes during the week. This program has been such a huge success that we have recently expanded to two beginner classes and an advanced-level class. Anyone needing to learn English is welcome to attend.

  • Family Fun Fridays – During the summer, Ashford prepares to open its doors and have a time where families can come and have fun. We have board games, movies, karaoke, a fire pit, singing, food…all around, it’s just a great time for fellowship.

  • Food Baskets – Collection of cans and boxes of food, other non-perishable items, hygiene items, etc. The Youth and Mission team then get together to place the items in a box to give to families in need around the community. During the month of December, a monetary donation is sent to Bongo, Panama for the purchase of food baskets in-country. Ashford usually sponsors 4 to 5 families in Bongo.

  • Habitat for Humanity – Ashford participated with other churches in different projects helping families around the Houston community.

  • Meals on Wheels – Several members of Ashford visit and help people in the community who are in need of assistance with groceries, picking up medicine, helping in the house, or just spending some time talking and listening to their concerns.

  • Mission Trip to Bongo, Panama – For the last five years, members from Ashford participated by going and spending ten days working in the community. Some of the projects we had done are: building extra rooms for classrooms, putting a roof over classrooms, sidewalks, fences, bus stops, multipurpose rooms, building bathrooms at schools, building benches, desk and tables for students. This trip takes place during the month of July. In 2015, Ashford helped build septic tanks and full bathrooms to three different families in the community.

  • One Great Hour of Sharing – One Sunday a year, Ashford collects coins from all Sunday school classes and the congregation to donate to UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief).

  • Ray K. Daily Elementary – Members of Ashford go to our adopted neighborhood school to help students who are struggling with reading or math. Volunteers will go once a week for two hours and help students for 30 to 45 minutes each. Several of our men also regularly participate in Houston ISD’s Real Men Read program.

  • Sandwich Making – Every third Monday of the month several churches get together to make sandwiches for the homeless. This is an ecumenical event, with lots of different people coming together to bag sandwiches with chips and then deliver.

  • Shoe Box – Members from Ashford adopt a child and will buy a number of things that children wish to have during the Holidays. This event takes place in November.

  • Socks for Homeless- During the month of November, Ashford collects socks for the homeless. Lots of socks come in and the youth and the Mission Team put together a small kit with a pair of socks, some candy, a little ornament, and a bible verse.
