Ashford United Methodist Church is a community that truly embraces the United Methodist promise: "Open hearts. Open minds. Open doors."We are located at 2201 S. Dairy Ashford, Houston, TX 77077, between Westheimer and Briar Forest. Our members serve God and the community through our many ministries. You will hear the word ministry a lot at our church and it is a word that we take seriously and try to live up to by learning, living and spreading the word of God. The United Methodist Church promises seekers that it is a denomination of open hearts, open minds and open doors. The call to live out this promise is a worthy goal, set high. And the achievement of "Open Hearts" is subjectively measured. The test of when a church truly lives the promise is perhaps best judged by those it serves. At Ashford United Methodist Church, we strive to be a welcoming and serving congregation. Ashford UMC has recenty received the Hospitality Award as an official "Welcoming Congregation" from Igniting Ministry, the television and welcoming ministry of the United Methodist Church. Criteria met included embracing newcomers and proivding opportunities in discipleship. The promise of "Open hearts. Open minds. Open doors." from the people of The United Methodist Church is being adopted and lived out in our almost 36,000 congregations in the United States. The promise was created by Igniting Ministry and developed after analysis of The United Methodist Church's theological history, as expressed in various sections of The Book of Discipline. Extensive research helped identify genuine expressions of yearning by people seeking spiritual renewal and connection within an affirming community. Our open hearts are evident not only in our shared theology but also in our service to the world; our open minds focus on servanthood; and our open doors allow for a variety of understandings within a single faith community. At Ashford UMC, you will find a congregation of many sincere and dedicated people with open minds and open hearts. Our doors are always open. |
